How the Vehicle Donation Program Works

Listed below are the steps that need to be taken in order to make a donation and obtain the proper documentation in order to take a tax write-off in accordance with IRS regulations.

Donations

• To make a donation, fill out our online donation form or call 866-616-9393 (toll free). We will need you to fill in ALL information fields for the on-line donation form. Please have your title available for contributions phoned into the Cars For Kids Foundation; VIN and title numbers will be requested.
  
  
• Within 24-72 hours, (1-3 days), after you call or submit your on-line donation form, the tow company will phone to set up an appointment to pick up your vehicle. THERE IS NO CHARGE, for this, Pick-ups are FREE! The tow company usually gives you a 2-3 hour time frame for pickup. When the tow company arrives to pick up your vehicle, you will give the tow driver the car, keys and title* for the car.
  
  *(In order to make a proper donation, the vehicle TITLE must be given to the tow truck driver at the time of pickup. The owner of the vehicle must SIGN the title on the signature of seller line. Please leave the remainder of the form blank. We have a representative in the office that takes care of title transfer information.)
  In order to make a proper donation, the vehicle TITLE must be given to the Cars For Kids Foundation at the time of pick-up.
  
  
• The tow truck driver will leave the donor a receipt. We ask the donor to keep the receipt until the tax letter arrives, approximately 4-6 weeks later.
  
  
• Once we obtain possession of your vehicle, and receive the title, Cars For Kids Foundation will forward to you the appropriate tax forms. We will also send you a receipt for your donation, and a letter stating that you have made a donation.

Proceeds

• Once we take possession of your vehicle, an assessment will be made as how to best use your donation to benefit the goals of the Cars for Kids Foundation. This could by gifting your vehicle to benefit a children’s cause, selling your vehicle in the open market, or by submitting your vehicle to auction in order to obtain the maximum amount of proceeds.
  
  
• Proceeds from your donation will go to the Children's Memorial Foundation (www.childrensmemorial.org). Further information regarding use of proceeds available upon request.
